FRIGHTLAND: Seasonal Crack House & Horror Porn Strip Club

ME: IF he really wanted to clean up the (C&D Canal) area it would be a lot cheaper and easier to close down a seasonal crack house known as "frightland".

Mot Newbie: As far as your selfish Frightland comment, dude, get over yourself already. Considering the turnout they get every year and the fact a crap load of that money is forked over to charity, there are enough people that LIKE to keep it around.
.....

Crap load of money? Like too many conservatives, Mot Newbie buys the PR hook line and sinker. Frightland's charitable contributions reached $250,000 last year. That is what they have given to charity over the life of the business.

That comes to less than $10,000 per year. I like you Mot Newbie, but don't be a dope. If you had a seasonal crack house & horror porn strip club opening up in your backyard every year - I wonder how much you'd like it.

While I'm on the subject of FRIGHTLAND - I wonder how much they have paid to have thier lighted year 'round signage up? Since the eyesores are plastered on the side's of barns and trailers I doubt anyone has thought to ask them to pony up like a real business.

Maybe our 9th district rep. Dick Cathcart should look into it? Oh that's right he is too busy defending himself in court.

Comments:
D'you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or what?

Frightland is a festering sore that flares up this time of year.

Cohen..I don't know. I keep expecting her to be a journalist and keep being disappointed.

So, you pretend that this is all Cathcart's and Castle's (your other post) problem? First, this isn't a US-level congressional issue, but since you went there, why wouldn't it also be Carper's or Biden's? Getting more local - Vaughn's? Ah, that's right. A robot is limited to the parameters of the programming that controls it. My bad, Jason-Robot.

I will do some research on Frightland to see if I can confirm or (hopefully) crush your claim. So, if this is in your backyard, I assume you live on Port Penn RD? Just trying to determine exactly where your back yard is relative to that huge parcel of land. Are you also insinuating that Frightland is nothing more than a front for drug use/dealing and prostitution and/or public sex? As I usually do, robot, I am simply wanting you to quantify your claims. Yours is the FIRST I have ever heard of this. They survive on ticket sales and a crap load of sponsors, so you may want to save them (the sponsors and general public), too. Apparently, I wasn't the only one to drink their Kool Aid, nor were they the only ones distributing it.

By the way, if you are insinuating this is a place of drugs and prostitution, how about going to your (our) local police first, as it would be their issue to deal with first? Not as easy as blaming the local legislators...I mean the legislators of your opposite party, right?

As hard as I am trying, and I really am...I have only found comments from you, Jason, about Frightland being what you claim. Even on Google, only comments by you!!! I'm serious, if you know for a fact that it is drug use/dealing and prostitution...call the cops. THEY should deal with it. ALL of those sponsors should know, too. You are making a hell of a shocking claim for something that is held in good public regard. It appears you are the only enlightened one on that place. Save them all! And if you are right, I will by you dinner. We can eat at the ChesDel as we watch them dismantle the place! However, if you are wrong and it turns out you have a vendetta, show your human and not a robot and be humble for once, OK? A lot of people look forward to that place and its events. If you want to destroy it solely for your own purpose, I think I actually feel sorry for you. If you're right, then you're a hero and you get a meal...and you get to meet me. That's the bonus.

In the meantime, I will continue to search for your claim. You can either stop me, or help me by providing me with your sources of info, because they appear to be hard-to-come-by.

Newbie,

I know that you are not going to be satified by this explaination for my hyperbole - but your honest and direct post demands a response. Meager as it is - here it goes.

I HATE FRIGHTLAND. Look at the website. Look at the orgy of death and degradation. Look at the dishonesty they use to sell this as a "charity" event. I have kids that I'm trying to raise in this horror called George Bush's America. We pass by that festival of death and moral relativism everyday.

So I hate it in the same way I would hate a crack house or a strip club. I was being metaphorical.

I know that explaination proves your worst thoughts about me to be true - but there you have it. I'm a horror prude. Nobody is perfect.

...explanation...

At least I'm consistent. This was cached from the now defunct Delatacit: "Worst People in Delaware" thread.

Every Frightland Owner & Patron

This annual horror-porn extravaganza pretends to be a charitable organization by throwing a few peanuts each year to some cancer charity. What a joke. To people who say I have no Halloween spirit, I say "How would you like a strip club/crack house/toxic waste dump opening up in your backyard every year

I saw that cached in the old delavoice. Delavoice and Delatacit one and the same?

Dude, consistency doesn't make it a fact! Well, at least you openly admitted your bias. Bravo and boo to you all in the same (for fessing and hating, respectively). Dude, despite your personal disdain, you really took it to accusational levels.

Now that you at least took me off my own hook (of which I was about to quit for the night anyway), I can admit that there are likely others out there that feel the same as you...well, probably not as much hate, but at least they don't like it.

On the charity part - is that something you can proove, or is that just another Jason Scott conclusion? Yes, I am your evil bastard. Your accusations are more serious than I think you might be aware. That event (all 45 days or so of it) is a huge deal. You still have a serious accusation hanging there. Regardless, I think the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will take $10k/year, although I'm sure the actual per year has increased over the time. Wait...your math is wrong. You claimed that they just hit the $250k ALL TIME to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Then you say it's $10k/year? You're saying they have been there for 25 years? Jason... c'mon! Stop it already. I know they opened in the late 90s, but I can't exactly remember what year. 98? Regardless, to be 25 years old since last year, that would mean 1980. You're at MINIMUM exaggerating it by 15+ years.

I can appreciate someone not enjoying a gore/horror scene like that. I don't disparage you for that. I do, however, have an issue when falsehoods or innuendos (read into that as gross exaggerations for this point) are made solely for advancing one's agenda.

Last issue for me on this. Explain how you came up with the charitable donation figures. The total number of years is already incorrect, so forget about that. How did you determine the $250k? On that note, being "liberal," I will say Frightland opened in 1995 (it definitely is not older than that), giving it ten years of business for this equation. That would put the donation clip at $25k/year. Factor in the popularity has cranked up over the years, the actual donation taken each year I'm sure has increased quite appreciably and is far from an exact $25k.

Now...

You took a couple of shots at me and you later became human and fessed up. Jason...chill out, man. You certainly have me pegged as a GOPer, but the only conservative part of me is fiscal. Everything else I am human, period. That's a side bar for another day.

OK, what about that donation claim? What do you have?

You are killing me with this. You are right that I took a shot at you - but you are the first person who ever defended frightland to me, so I went off.

I worked out the approx. $10,000 per year when I read this in the Trabscript in 2003.

In 1996, Idalia Farms just south of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal was little more than a pumpkin patch and an un-haunted hayride as far as tourists were concerned. (snip)

The next year, partners Nick Ferrara III, George Long and Richard Pindek added a nighttime fright attraction,

Denni Ferrara, Nick’s wife, said another important part of Frightland is its contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Delaware. She figures Frightland has raised about $80,000 for the foundation over the years

She "figures" "about" $80,000. Let's say $75,000 to be a tad more honest.

That was written in 2003, so they were averaging $10,700 a year (PEANUTS) for the first seven year.

That figure stuck in my mind. Then - last year I seem to remember reading the $250,000 lifetime figure. So I guess they bumbed it up to $25,000 per year (STILL PEANUTS) compared to what they are pulling in.

You got me in a math error. But look how big the words "Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Delaware" appear on the signage and advertising. It is clear that they are trying to give the impression that the event is for charity. Infact I've read this very assertion repeated in letters to the News Journal.

That is where I'm coming from. In part it is the horror-porn and in part it is the misleading about the event being for charity. In combination - I HATE FRIGHTLAND.
