St. Ferris - The Patron Saint of Easily Excited Republicans

Wow! You can just feel the Ferris-wheels-a-turning! It seems that the state's Republicans are just spazzing out with excitement over Ferris. And check out this picture the GOP is sending around...

...do you notice how an aura of holy purity envelopes him?

No wonder the Dt's of the world are seeing signs and miracles all about, "he's the most qualified person ever to run for AG."

Mike at Down With Absolutes was the first to call bullshit on all of this idolatry.

As for me, I like my anon commenter who said, "Vast experience successfully prosecuting psychopathic murderers, which as you know is our greatest crime problem here in Delaware. You can hardly leave the house without seeing them leering at you from behind their hockey masks.

Oh, also great success in prosecuting political corruption. Why, just look at how the Gordberry case - oh wait, that was a mistrial. Not the prosecution's fault, of course! OK then, just look at all the other political corruption and white-collar crime he's tried. Why there's... um, and... ahh, I'll get back to you on that.

Comments:
Well, there are actually AGs who turn out to be apolitical crusaders for what's right and good. The pre-mayor Giuliani cracked the mob and put away a lot of political, corporate, and drug bad guys. Wharton may very well turn out like that; I don't know. I want to hear what Wharton says on the campaign trail. Heck, this is Delaware; I'll probably meet the guy three times before the election. But his press release emphasizes all the wrong things for me. And that is one hell of a big vat of Kool-Aid the GOP and the bloggers are mixing up.

At some point you're going to have to admit that Democratic voters are in a pickle. They have to decide between what's right for the state and blind party loyalty. It's a clear character test for Delaware Dems.

Oh my, I just had a chuckle. In 2006, to be lectured about character tests by a Republican. ...sorry, let me compose myself...

Now then, the party of George Bush, the party that puts the RNC elephant above the American eagle, is going to tell me that I have to cross party lines as proof of my good character...?

Did I get that right?

This is typical Republicanism.

You can be partisan, cheat, steal, use any dirty trick under the sun, and when a Democrat says - I'm sticking with the Democrats - they are lacking in character.

What a laugh.

Well, so far, if all we are doing is stacking resume against resume, the burden of proof has shifted to Beau. To not admit that Jason, is True Blue thinking old chum.
Mr. Wharton has put a good number of bad people away, and I thank him for that. Don't mind signing his paycheck every other Friday for that.
And since he was Jane's deputy dawg for a time, he probably knows his way around the budget, the payroll, the organizational chart, the Legislature and the Code. So I feel pretty sure he can drive the truck.
But DT, the job IS more than just that.
Which way does he plan to take said truck when, oh let me see, Valero thumbs its nose at DNREC for the umpteenth time and dumps another load of SO2 on Southern Elementary School? Will he stand up, or wait for the EPA or the Environmental Defense Fund to walk downtown with a brief on behalf of the slowly choking kids?
Or will he go into court and press the state's escheat claim on unclaimed winnings at the three slots casinos and racetracks that DEFAC says belong to the state but the Powers That Be don't want to both Ryckman et al. about?
Or will he stand up for Open Government and access to all Joint Finance Committee discussion of the $3 billion budget, or access to any and all audits -- properly redacted to protect LEGITIMATE privacy -- of things we all are paying for?

Lots of time to get lots of answers about both from both. Lots of time to listen real closely too.
Not a good time to be True Blue -- or Dead Red. Too much depends on all of us using reason rather than rhetoric.

Well put.

As far as this is concerned...
I'm sure you don't want to start a character argument featuring the leaders of the two parties.

Did you vote for Kerry or Bush...?

Case closed.

Given lies, incompetence and criminal behavior rampant in GWB's first term and since you can give no reasons WHATSOEVER to have voted for George Bush for a second term - other than naked partisanship (and empty headed jingosistic partisanship at that).

I'm going to assume that you voted for Kerry.

Seriously, case closed.

Whether you are D or R, if you want to reduce spending it makes sense to wish (and vote) for a President of the opposite party of the House.

Not in '06 or '08 though... the D's will need a few terms of legislative control to undo the Bush damage.
