Americans Don't Trust Bush/Republicans on National Security
Democrats Make Big Gains in Generic Ballot - Political Wire
The latest Diageo Hotline Poll shows congressional Democrats making major gains, more than doubling their generic ballot advantage over Republicans to 15 points, up from just 7 points last month.

From a political perspective, President Bush's national security credentials have clearly been tarnished due to the outcry over this issue. For the first time ever, Americans have a slight preference for Democrats in Congress over the President on national security issues. Forty-three percent (43%) say they trust the Democrats more on this issue today while 41% prefer the President.
The generic ballot thing does not mean much alone, but it is clear that the UAE ports deal seems to have cleared up some things in the public mind.
1) Bush TALKS a great game when it comes to National Security but he has not been able to deliver.
2) Bush's loyalty to middle eastern royal familes trumps his loyalty to the Constitution.
3) Republicans can not be trusted to govern.

In your fevered little mind it is "patriotic" to support George Bush and unpatriotic to point out that is doing a terrible job. Whatever.
Am I sad that Bush is taking in on the chin over this UAE ports deal? No. People are begining to wake up a bit and that is good for the country in the long run.
Would I rather he was a sane and successful President? Yes I do. The country would be better off if we had a better President. I don't see how that makes me unpatriotic.

Jason - as a conservative Republican and a real patriot who swore an oath to defend the Constitution from any enemy, foreign AND DOMESTIC, I am so disgusted and enraged by this cast of characters who have seized our country and endanger all freedoms that I could literally spit at Bush and his ilk.
I agree with you on so much, but please realize that you cheapen and corrode the value of a meaningful, constructive sharing of ideas when you constantly hang the world's ills on 'Republicans', making no distinctions between the party made up of its many grass roots voters and supporters and those with a whole 'nother agenda entirely who have dictatorially co-opted it to their nefarious personal and imperial ends.
Like it or not if we are to work together, for real, to change things and take our country back we cannot villainize each other with shallow, cheap labeling and broad-brush condemnation. Even many national Republican toties are beginning to come around......your arms should be open to them because guess what (?) - you/we need them to be in your/our corner, rather than in the wilderness, to help us stop this madness running amok in the Executive branch this nation.
39% or so, on either side of the fence, gets nothing done -- especially when the lines are drawn on scorched earth.
