Of course the audience was a screened bunch of ringers eager to throw some softballs at President, but the fact that they were not "scripted" makes this news worthy.
"Q Again, I just wanted to thank you for coming. Your speech was very good. I'm a big admirer of your wife. I know that you said that your role as a President was as a decision-maker, and I would like you to comment, please, on how your wife contributes to your decision-making process, and how you confide in her. Thank you."
""It's amazing that people say to me, 'Well, he's just breaking the law.' If I wanted to break the law, why was I briefing Congress?" asked Bush."
I have a question about this. When did Bush start briefing the Congress about this program? Was it before the NYT knew about it in 2004 and sat on it (stupidly) at Bush's personal request or afterwards? If it was afterwards, it would sure look like Bush started to inform Congress just to cover his butt.
The Daily Show had a great sendup of this. Someone asked him a question about education being cut, and he pretended not to hear and then mumbled something lame in response. Then, some lady from the Cattleman's Beef Association complimented him, and he heard that just fine. It's a miracle!
