Castle AWOL in the war

While Republicans like to huff and puff about personal responsibility - when it comes to actually being accountable for his votes enabling Bush's debacle of a war - Castle says "Look! a Stem Cell! Cute Aint it?"

I have to hand it to Patrick Jackson though. He at least for at least tried to get Castle on the record about the war. But Castle is nothing if not a smooth and slippery politician and for every direct question about the war Castle had a handy dodge or a clever non-response.

Have the Republicans screwed up Iraq and let the Taliban off the hook in Afghanistan?
"Us military actions in Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on terror are looming large on voter's minds."

Do you agree with Bush that we are winning the war on terror?
"The Democrats are trying to make this a referendum on the war, but I don't know if they can..."

Do you regret supporting George Bush given the fact that he lied us into the war?
"I have concerns about our rail and port security."

A majority of Americans believe we should get out of Iraq - Do you?
Illegal immigration is a big issue for voters"

Castle has got more ducks than LUMS POND.

In a story that fittingly jumps to the obituary page, Jackson tries in vain to get a straight answer from Castle on the war. Instead of being a man and admitting that he was taken in by George Bush, Castle gives a preview of how he will attempt to skate into November by not talking about the war.

All in all it is not a bad strategy. If the electorate is as sleepy as Castle seems to think they are - he might well be able to slip through with his clever dodges and red herrings.

Comments:
C'mon Jason. Castle is just another Bush lackey, but Spivak is running a terrible campaign. Have you seen his website? It is awful - you need a magnifying glass to read it, there are tons of wasted space, and it is designed to put you to sleep. The campaign "blog" hasn't been updated for more than a month! How is he going to get people excited and to the polls? How has he got a chance?

Yeah, I hate to see Castle roll to another victory. But Dennis is running a Gore 2000 or Kerry 2004 campaign. No passion and no excitement. There are 100 different ways to generate the buzz necessary to have a chance to beat Castle, but I don't see Dennis doing any of them. Too bad. When I saw Dennis at the PDD meeting, I thought we really had a chance. Not so much any more.

Sad but true. I keep going after Castle - when I'd rather be talking up Spivack.

A while back I wrote that he needed to make sure he did not fall under the spell of some political "consultants" that would work to water him down - and it seems that might have happened.

I think the Spivak campaign has two big problems. Money is the obvious one, but it also seems like he doesn't have much help. They don't seem to have volunteers or even people willing to do the basic stuff like wear a button. Even people with Markell, Carney, Biden stickers on their cars don't have Spivak stickers. I see Spivak and his manager everywhere, but that's about it. Beau, on the other hand, has volunteers everywhere to go along with his big campaign money. Maybe some of the shoo-ins could share the wealth?

Didn't you get the memo?

It's bad luck to have a Spivack sticker on your car.

Jason put one on and backed his car into a post.

Or maybe it was all that weight in the passenger seat that threw you off.

"I think the Spivak campaign has two big problems. Money is the obvious one, but it also seems like he doesn't have much help."

If he got the help, he'd get the money. But he needs something big to get the ball rolling. He needs to get on the front line someplace, and take a very public stand. I don't know if he is being held back by Carper and Joe Biden because they sure aren't giving him any help agains their buddy, Mike.

Agree with Anonymous that the lack of help and a lack of a splashy issue are what is burdening the Spivack campaign. In my part of the world most Dems act as if they didnt know there is a primary. Dennis should take the questions asked of Castle in the NJ interview and publically demand answers. Castle seems to be nowhere the issue except this blog

Dennis should be running against Bush and the rethuglickin majority. He should take to the streets - go to the crime-ridden neighborhoods, to the failing schools, to the soup kitchens and homeless shelters - and ask, no, shout "why?". And then he should go to our industrial and academic research facilities, and ask why stem cell research, energy independence, and the fight against diseases is not being adequately funded. And then he should go to hospitals and talk about healthcare. And get his website and blog to start to talk to the people the way Dean's did.

He should take to the streets - go to the crime-ridden neighborhoods, to the failing schools, to the soup kitchens and homeless shelters - and ask, no, shout "why?".

Yes. Yes, he should. And while he's there, he can ask them what the Democratic Administration in Delaware has done for them.

FSP,

"He can ask them what the Democratic Administration in Delaware has done for them."

Yes, I wrote the item you quoted, and I agree with you - but that does not let the rethugs off the hook for wasting OUR dollars and thousands of lives in Iraq that should have been home.
