I'll buy you a drink after the hoopla.

Damn...at that price? When did Democrats become Republicans?

You are on. (provided you are not the craze-bag anon from below.)

$50.00 ?

if this was a republican thing it would be $5,000.00

J -- Ask me about my Dean connection today.

Lol

I'll be the guy holding the pickaxe.

Jason, do you even read the links you use? You caterwaul about Republican waste, fraud and abuse as if they're unique to Republicans. The very link you cited has these three items:

nternal Rules Reveal Indictment Loophole
"The internal rules of the House Republican Conference and the House Democratic Caucus contain a backdoor procedure for allowing committee leaders to keep their positions if they are indicted, according to full copies of both sets of rules obtained by The Hill." (The Hill)

Whistle While You Work
"Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) introduced legislation Monday that would extend federal whistle-blower protections to Congressional staff and other legislative branch employees. The new shields would be added to the 1995 Congressional Accountability Act, created to end legislative branch exemptions from 11 laws covering civil rights, fair employment and discrimination." (Roll Call - sub. req.)

Jefferson Continues Court Fight on Raid
"Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) is continuing his legal effort to retain materials seized in a May 20 raid on his Rayburn office by the Justice Department, which has targeted him in a corruption probe. Jefferson’s lawyers filed a legal brief Monday supporting his motion to stay, a maneuver that would prevent the department from taking possession of the materials while Jefferson exhausts his appeals. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Hogan ruled against Jefferson earlier this month." (The Hill)

OMG, you are seriously trying to refer us to the Democratic Party of Delaware to cure waste, fraud, and abuse????

Dude, they ARE waste, fraud, and abuse.

The Delaware Democrats are far worse shit-sucking, socialist, unaccountable, corrupt fatass yokels than the pigs in the White House, who aren't much better. The DelDems have one interest : their own privileges, perqs, and paychecks. They are highly sophisticated leaches.

Get real, man. The Delaware Dems work FOR developers and corporate giveaways, while operating AGAINST working people by sucking them dry and harassing them at every level with taxes, licenses, regulations, and an army of predatory enforcers. It is obvious you know nothing about the Wilmington government (99.99 Democrat) and how they have fleeced taxpayers with complicity from state Democrats - just look at the waterfront! Poor folks live in squalor while the Buccinis and other influence buyers get public funds for their big profit, highy-dollar claptrap housing.

Sorry, guy, but the Delaware Democrats = National Republicans. Self-serving, dishonest, unaccountable, despicable.

Wake up and think about your fellow man, not your party leaders for once. And spare me the bullshit about how supporting corrupt Wilmington Democrats is going to stop George Bush. Get real. A fascist is a fascist is a fascist.....and the Democrats in Delaware have more than enough for a lifetime of hellish oppression.

Anon,

Yeah...I'm a facist, and there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. I get it. Okay, then. Thanks for stopping by. Have a nice day.

Duffy -

You can't defend this by saying, the Democrats are bad too.

"Flat-bottomed rescue boats at double the retail price, $68,500 worth of unused dog booties, hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of computers that somehow disappeared and a $227 beer brewing kit.

These are just a few of the questionable purchases that Congressional auditors have found by digging through half a year of credit card records from the Homeland Security Department, including records for the months immediately after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita last year."

Don't you get it? Think of it this way, "The Dems have some bad apples but whole Republican orchard is a stinking toxic dump."

Dana - you need help. Seriously. As I've said about a million times the Demcoratic party is flawed, but fixable.

But fixing it is slow and hard work. It is not going to happen overnight. So you can piss on everyone from your moral high horse or you can get to work.

I choose to put my energies into the practical work of fixing the Democratic party. Not the impracical (and self-defeating) work of dreaming that things were different.

But hey. Everyone is different. Go for it. Peace Out!

Mike M,

I just got an email from Terry Strine inviting me to a Republican fundraiser:

$150/Individual
$1,000/Sponsor
$2,500/Patron

just sayin'

Think we can get a photo op with Dean and Minner in a fierce lip-lock?

LOL. I damn sure ain't named 'Dana'. But I need help, from you, to fix your crooked ass party here in Delaware.

They are the problem and you are their lapdog.

The problems with your party ARE the problems that need to be fixed.

As far as your constant excuses why nothing ever changes, it isn't the fixing that is slow and hard, it is the heads of your Wilmington Democrat official thieves. What a joke. You sound like Bush's excuses for leaving problems to get worse : "It takes time. It's hard work. Boo hoo."

How about doing us all a favor by gettin off your ass to 'fix' (neuter) the Wilmington Democrats. Your premise about taking time to fix things lacks the only important thing - the political will to do it. The City fatasses have no interest in fixing a damn thing, except the odds in their favor.

Stop being a hot-air Democrat and show me the actions by which your City public-tit-suckers are 'fixing things'. Shit, they are the ones breaking things in the first place.

Until then please shut your yap on Wilmington Democrats. You are oozing as much garbage as the streets of Wilmington.

I think Dems must be really comfortable and cozy stewing in garbage and blight. I guess you are what you eat.

Not Dana,

If the elegant turn of a phrase was poltical action, you'd be Ghandi.

Sadly, the elegant turn of a phrase leaves you with exactly nothing accomplished at the end of the day.

The other path is less thrilling. Joining committees, canvassing neigborhoods, manning voter registration booths, supporting the lesser of two evils (GASP!)

But like I said. Everyone is different. Be true to yourself.

Jason,

I do not think either part has a monopoly on corruption. Rather, its a function of how many times you get re-elected. Those that have been there the longest (IMNHO) are the most corrupt. They become the most powerful and know how to game the system. Hastert was caught personally profiting from a government boondoggle. He created a REIT to buy property and kept his name out of it as much as possible. He then made sure Uncle Sam bought that land at a premium for some project or other.

Not something you do your first term in DC.

I do not think either part has a monopoly on corruption.

No, but the money flows to the party in power.

And Dem ticket-splitting, even for a "progresssive Republican" only perpetuates the flow of money to the majority.

That's why voting for Dems is the remedy for Republican corruption.

That's also why there are no corrupt Greens - not due to purity of character, but because they just aren't worth bribing.

Not to be naive - the same corruption has occurred when Dems held long-term majority (and would happen again).

I'm hoping for a few years of Dem majority to fix the Bush disaster, followed by a long era of split government.

Elegant? I have been called many things but never anything using that.

Unfortunately your own inelegant turns of phrase are just as effective to your own ends, much less those that are actually good.

There are so many components to public action that you neglect. Your electoral-centric laundry list of activities pretty much leaves elected officials to their own devices except for 1 out of 730 days. In fact, these are the limp activities that really have NOTHING to do with day-to-day government. In fact, they are responsible for producing the very crooks you now defend.

Sunlight is a wonderful disinfectant. Public exposure and citizen persistence 'fighting city hall' is worthwhile if you can do it, rather than hoping for hope on election day - and never doing anything after that, except getting ready for the next one and bending over for what happens in between.

The Middletown guy who blew the lid of those crooks obviously wasn't sitting around jawboning with a bunch of politicos. He acted, instead of just talking about it and planning it forever and ever.

How many times have you called a local politician to discuss their work, air an issue, make a suggestion, or ask for accountability? How many meetings? How many letters? (Angry, shrill calls trying to bait the enemy - like your crank calls to Michael Oldmeek Castle - don't count).

Amen about corruption having no particular party. But when a government is run, literally, with only one member of the opposition party in the entire official body, well....it is easy to see who is the problem.

In Delaware the 'party in power' is a nebulous thing, not well-defined, and hardly a term that can be used in any applicable general sense when it comes to the 'flow of money'.

Rather than work to simply make sure that corrupt money flows your own way, towards corrupt jackasses, why not work to make your saviors support zero dollar politics - public financing - harsh anti-lobbying statutes? Oh right, that wouldn't so much for all their perquisites and influence-peddling schemes with developers and corporations.

Take money away from politics and revenues away from government and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Big government or pervasive government is the problem. The GOP is already starting to see a resurgence of its small government libertarian wing against big-government 'Republicans', so I see hope on their side. But there is no such thing as a small-government Democrat. For you trough-sloppers, the sky's the limit == and they already own that too!!

And we're going to Michigan...and California...and Idaho...and we're gonna take back the White House...arrrggghhhh!!!!

Jason,

Re: the price difference. There's also a huge thing to be said for a banquet event at the Hotel DuPont in which a meal is being served as opposed to "light refreshments" at the Residences. Democrats have gold-plate banquets that cost just as much most of the time.

Good point, esp. when you consdider the fact that most of those "light refreshments" will be hooverd up by two or three pigs and I'll end up with a peice of waxy looking brie on a stale triskit and a luke warm 7-up.

That Republican tenderloin is looking better all the time.

So I'm guessing you're going to this gala event with Gov. -- oops, I mean Dr.! -- Dean???

If I can get by with my torn and tattered college ID, you may see me there, as well!

I'd love to go, what about all of the Deanites who pony up the 5 to 10 bucks and get his internet schema going? Isn't there balcony seating or something!?

Mike M. & Nancy,

If you guys manage slip past security I'll buy you a drink afterwards.

Anything nearby that you know of? I need to firm up plans with anon.

Looks nice! Awesome content. Good job guys.
