Screw Delaware Watch

I wish I never coined the term "Delaware Incumbency Party" Dana is SO misusing it. His recent post is 100% pure cry baby bullshit. I think he just gets off on being this contrarian pain in the ass.

What the hell has the green party done? Nothing - other than help out Republicans.

If he really cared about progressive politics and social justice he'd join the democratic party and start getting some work done instead of pissing on everyone from his ivory tower.

What a useless posuer.

Comments:
Jason,

I think you're much too partisan to realize where people like Dana and I come into the picture. The two-party system is broken. Irreparibly, for the most part. You can either tow the line like many people or you can blaze new trails. The Democrat and Republican parties are both full of shit.

Contrarian is what we need these days. Perhaps if the Dems. and Repubs. accepted this they'd be in a better place than they are today.

Talk about crying!

You call yourself a 'Democrat'! You're not even a democrat. There should never be restrictions on political speech and association that hinge on stating a certain affiliation. That's called fascism!!

The fact that the Democratic party is behind this is glaring confirmation that it is truly the heir to Stalin and his ilk. "Sure you can vote, comrade, as long as you declare you are a communist. Oh and by the way, we have one party you can vote for - the communist party. Oh and don't forget the party has one candidate - our glorious father Stalin."

Despicable. If you had any credibility left as a purported claimant of democratic values you have blown it here buddy. You are now in the category of those who think that even democracy itself is less important than your party's winning.

Green is a good color for your site, Jason. You seem to have some envy going for Dana. He is the true democrat. You have reminded why I remain a Republican.

Then limit a candidate's name to one listing, with the parties below their name. You don't need to deny entire groups of people and candidates the right to free, unrestricted political expression. This is an incumbency protection crock of smoldering horse shit. Both parties are so cynical and cute with it that my head is spinning.

The problem with your argument is that the means you are alleging to reduce duplication can be done WITHOUT these hardcore restrictions, that just so happen to benefit the major parties by mandating certain political speech as the price of admission to an election. If an election regulation affects or limits free speech and democracy itself, beyond any half-assed goal of ballot name duplication, then it is NOT acceptable and is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Pick a side? Yeah I am an American. Free expression, free voting, freedom to choose, freedom of many choices.

You guys make me sick. The fact that you both agree on something means it has to be THE worst thing for liberty and open democracy. Fascism by incumbency.

Do these restrictions exist in Iraq, DT???

Here's a thought. How about taking all of these fucking political parties out of the state code and off the ballot altogether. They have no place but in private choices of political association. If you are too much of a dumbass to figure out who you're voting for then tough luck. The ballot should not be advertising political parties.

There is NO damn good reason that we should have statutory propping of political parties. They have become the problem that is reducing citizen participation not enhancing it.

parties have had to meet a threshhold to be included on the ballot. I don't hear anyone railing against that, do I?

Arbitrary and capricious. That needs to be fixed too, but we seem to be sliding in the wrong direction on every front in Dover.

You seem to not to understand the law of political free speech in the slightest. It works in the negative too, i.e. it is a restriction on your right if you are adversely affected by what you DON'T say (such as - "I am a ___________". Silence is, believe it or not, a form of protected speech. Especially in the political realm.

Sorry, DelaJason or LiberalThought, whatever you morphs are these days....we are not at war for a democracy in Iraq that is GREATER than we have here.

Get with the program of democracy, not the pogrom of non-D/R parties.

Jason, you are as bad as Rove and the rest of election-stealing GOPers denying people access to democracy so you can WIN WIN WIN.

'Well, if you don't support me, I'm running in the general for someone else's team anyway."

When will you get it through your thick partisan shell of a skull that elections are not supposed to be team sports and division games for political parties?

When will you learn that we do not elect parties but representatives of the people?

When will you learn that any party system or party election scheme placing more importance on reinforcing the divisions between loose political associations than on a wide and diverse people's franchise is just plain CORRUPT!

Who gives a rat's pa-toot whose 'team' you are on? How does that help democracy and citizen involvement. Who the fuck cares if one team is crying that another team happens to have chosen the same nominee.

Pull your head out of your rectum and realize that political parties are NOT the point of our democratic republic. If they start getting in the way, you better bet the people will lash out. I hope it happens this fall and snowballs from there.

Any political uber-party like the D/R dipole that introduces ballot and election restrictions IN AN ELECTION YEAR and that HELP THEM AND HURT THEIR OPPONENTS IN THAT SAME ELECTION CYCLE are either bursting with criminal stupidity or utterly maniacal hubris.

Please, DelaThought, you are better than this. I once thought Jason was but he is just a one-trick pony. You have shown me you are way more balanced and reasonable than he is. I hope you pull back and think about how we can enlarge democracy together - even if we have to leave the so-called 'Democrats' on the sidelines. Strine screwed our party by jumping in bed with these guys on an issue we could have bludgeoned them with. But then again had Strine not sold us out it would never have become an issue anyway.

The two-party system is broken. Irreparibly, for the most part. You can either tow the line like many people or you can blaze new trails. The Democrat and Republican parties are both full of shit.

1) That is what the Republicans want you to think. So you stay on the sidelines.

2) Simply not true. Just because some third party wannabes can't get enough people together to fill a dart bus does not mean the system is broken. Read the post about Texas and go to a local committee meeting then let me know if you think it is irreparable.

If anyone has a legitimate gripe about the Democratic party - they can get off their ass and fix it. People like Dana are too ideologically pure to do so, so screw them.

I hope they enjoy their irrelevance.

No, it is NOT what Republicans want us to think, Jason. It's what I think...especially seeing as both parties are overly beholden to the corporate dollar. And that may be the only reason. Democrats ARE JUST as comfy in bed with lobbyists as Republicans. Simple as that.

And, for the record, I voted for Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004.

Just because some third party wannabes can't get enough people together to fill a dart bus

LMAO!
