I'm Not Sad About This

Abramoff Scandal Threatens to Derail Reed's Political Ambitions

The Washington scandal over lobbyist Jack Abramoff may claim a casualty outside the nation's capital: Ralph Reed, a former presidential-campaign adviser who once headed one of the U.S.'s largest Christian activist groups.

Disclosures that Reed once ran an anti-gambling campaign that was secretly financed by casino-owning clients of his friend Abramoff have damaged his ability to raise funds for a bid to become Georgia's next lieutenant governor, other Republicans say. Via Hubmaster

In related news, the country has begun to believe that the republican party is the party of immorality and unethical behavior. In Harry Reid's editorial in the Houston chronicle he talks about how difficult and scary it was to clear the mob out of Los Vegas, then he goes on to say,

Our nation's capital has been overrun by organized crime — Tom DeLay-style.

The gangsters are the lobbyists, cronies and lawmakers who have banded together and abused their power to serve their own self-interest. The casinos are the Capitol, which has had its doors thrown open for special interests to waltz in and help themselves, and the victims, of course, are the American people.

There is a price to pay for the culture of corruption, and we can see it in the state of our union.

Consider the state of our economy. On one side is Big Oil, which reaped $100 billion in profits in 2005. On the other side are middle-class families. Their wages are declining at the same time they are paying more for gas, heat, education and other needs.

The Washington Times ? I'd cross check that.

The Washington Times debunked here (nice lefty blog, btw).

So much for the WaTi. Howard Dean ripped Wolf Blitzer a new one on this topic.

BLITZER: Should Democrats who took money from Jack Abramoff give it back?

DEAN: There are no Democrats who took money from Jack Abramoff, not one, not one single Democrat. Every person named in this scandal is a Republican. Every person under investigation is a Republican. Every person indicted is a Republican. This is a Republican finance scandal. There is no evidence that Jack Abramoff ever gave any Democrat any money. And we've looked through all of those FEC reports to make sure that's true.

Pelosi is a Baltimore native who's dad was a pol, she is infected with old school means to end but her background probably gave her the skills to get the votes to power/leadership...too bad.

I love that someone said that what took the DEMs 30 years to do in DC only took the GOPers 10...

Normally I wouldn't kick a guy when he's down, but for Ralph Reed I'll make an exception. I picked up this quote from another blog:

"...it became pretty obvious he was putting money before God," said Phil Dacosta, a Georgia Christian Coalition member who had initially backed Reed. "We are righteously casting him out."

Man, with a recommendation like that he should have no problem finding a job in the private sector.

Too bad the foul odors don't penetrate the GOPer noses UNTIL the feds open the can of worms...where are the gut instincts that could have warned people about this guy?? eeeeewwww
