Honestly, where would the GOP be without him?
They blame him for everything. They excuse every criminal act they commit by saying that he did it first, and if Al Gore did not buy (on some level) the republican line that something called "Clinton fatigue" existed in the country, Bush would not be where he is today.

Remember, for eight years the right had to look at Clinton and Gore in the White House which they thought was theirs by divine right. It bugged them even more that things went well. The GOP predicted economic collapse when the 1992 budget passed on a party-line vote.
So yeah, they have some lingering resentments. No wonder the sight of Al Gore, especially Al Gore saying something frighteningly accurate and damning, drives them up the wall.
