Subjects or Citizens ?
Under the pretext of keeping Americans safe, George Bush acknowledged authorizing warrantless eavesdropping on U.S. citizens more than a dozen times - and he vowed to continue to do so. This is a crime. An "against the law" crime. Not a metaphorical crime. Bush is a criminal.
It makes wingnuts feel safe and sound to find out that the President is moving the country toward some kind of RNC run totalitarian state and away from the principles of the founding fathers. Democrats, on the other hand are shocked. Here is Russ Feingold earlier on CNN:
"We have a president, not a king, and that's the way he's talking," Feingold said in an interview with CNN. "What he's doing, I believe, is illegal. And it's really quite a shocking moment in the history of our country."

Jason, again you are having a very knee-jerk reaction to yet another anti-Bush story.
Neither you nor I, nor probably even Russ Feingold, is knowledgeable enough about this issue to know for a fact that what the President did was legal or illegal.
Therefore, for you to call him a criminal, is completely irresponsible, and Feingold too, may end up with a lot of egg on his face for speaking too soon.
One thing for certain is that whomever is responsible for these serious national security leaks, should be held accountable. When I think of all the ink that was wasted on that bogus Valerie Plame "leak" non-story, and here you have real intelligence leaks happening left and right, and the MSM have no interest whatsoever in exposing the leakers.
But they're not being partisan, jason, right? Yeah. Right. I guess you would call that being "objective". :rolleyes:

That's so not true, jason. The President has a very difficult balancing act to perform in trying to keep us from further attacks, yet not trample on our civil liberties. You guys are always just so quick to attack him, and to think the worst of him. It's really despicable.
Unfortunately, and you are not going to like hearing this, jason, but sadly, some people just won't understand exactly how serious this threat is unless we get hit big once or twice more. Then you guys will be carping that President Bush didn't do enough to protect us. And that's the sorry truth of it. You know it is.

I have a question, jason. You make disparaging comments about FNC and talk radio, etc., but I see where you get your news from, which explains a good deal.
So, do you ever just go directly to the source for a story? Or do you always get your news filtered through Daily Kos or Network News etc.? Just curious.

Also, with regard to the NY Times' suspect timing of the release of this story, right on the eve before the vote on the floor on the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, there is no way that this is not a deliberate political move on their part.
This story, by Times reporter James Risen, was undoubtedly meant to affect that vote adversely, (which it did) as well as to serve as a marketing tool to jump start Risen's new book, which will be released within the next ten days or so.
These people are so transparent to most of us, and yet, jason, you don't believe the press is biased towards the left? There are none so blind.....

What is George Bush's past gives you the impression that he deserves un-checked kinglike powers? I'm not asking as a Democrat but as an American.

In order to respond to your question, jason, I would first have to accept its premise, viz. that President Bush is exercising "unchecked kinglike powers".
Well, I do not accept that premise. Upon examination, I think it will be demonstrated that the President acted within the law and the Constitution.
