Feingold is divorced though, and some people might think he doesn't have that homey family atmosphere that makes alot of politicians popular.

I guess if the Republicans nomiate twice (thrice?) divorced adulterer Newt Gingrich it would not be a issue.
Check that. They would figure out some way for it to be bad for Democrats to divorce, but pleasing to God that Republicans divorce.
