Republicans return to yummy mother's milk: The stabbed in the back narrative

UPDATE: As if on cue, the braintrust puts up this little gem blaming "anti-war protesters" for the debacle in Iraq. That's right - it is those bad "anti-war protesters" fault. Who knew they had so much power? If it were not for those "anti-war protesters" we'd be kicking ass.

The stabbed in the back narrative has a long and storied history among right-wing movements seeking to explain the failures of conservative policies. And it's here now, in force. The right-wing in this country is working overtime to ensure that the Democrats and the media receive blame for the consequences of the war in Iraq and the failed war on terror rather than the right-wing leaders who are actually in charge.

Here Matt Stoller at MYDD picks up the thread. You can read it, or simply wait for Hube, Ryan and Politakid to commence the parroting.

Comments:
The "stabbed in the back" strategy essentially says this:
Republicans, even when in charge of every part of government, are not able to govern.

Interesting... "not able to govern."

Now, being a liberal and reading that I think, "Yep, conservative ideas are so flawed and based on fantasy that they can'twork when put into practice. Republicans simply cannot govern."

But if I were some kind of Hube-like zombie, I'd read that and think, "Yep, liberal control of the media, and the masses is so complete that Republican policies will always fail. Republicans simply cannot govern under these conditions."

The natural outworking of all of this will be a call, from the right, for state control of the media. Ironic to say the least given the current level of state control of the media.

Republicans are governing perfectly well to suit themselves. Bush is all about revving the engines for upward transfer of wealth - mission accomplished! The social conservatism is just a smokescreen.

...they were elected in favor of . This is a shame. However, it is still better than the alternative, in my mind.

Yeah! All that lousy peace and prosperity, who needs it?! Give me more deficit-busting spending and ethically questionable earmarks.

Dt,

You've gone off the deep end. Is this some sort of election year pose?

Do I need to do a side-by-side of GDP growth and job creation?

Yes actually DT, you do - and then you owe us another Myth Busters post.

This guy has done that particular homework. I just found this at random; if you don't like the source then find another:
http://www.eriposte.com/economy/other/demovsrep.htm

Or try this one:
"Since 1930 (the first year decent data is available), GDP growth was 5.4 percent for Democratic presidents and 1.6 percent for Republicans." (source)
