A Lieberman Loss & GOP Spin Prep.

Embattled Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman - facing a possible primary defeat Tuesday because of his strong backing for the Iraq war - yesterday launched a Hail Mary attack on the Bush administration's handling of the war.
"I supported our war in Iraq but I have always questioned the way it was being executed," Lieberman said.

"This administration took far too many shortcuts. We continue to suffer the consequences, as do the Iraqi people."

What happened to:

It's time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be the commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril. - Via Eschaton

Now that it looks like Lamont might do the impossible and beat Joe Lieberman, it is time to prepare for the inevitable GOP spin.

SPIN ITEM:

- This helps Bush!!!
(Did you ever notice that in GOP fantasy world everything "helps" Bush? Weird huh?)

HOW TO DEAL:

Use reality. Ask "How can Bush losing his most ardent supporter in the Senate "help" Bush?

SPIN ITEM:

- The radical leftist bloggers are purging the party and lurching the party to the left!!!!
(Al Mascitti is big on this point of GOP spin. They want centerist Dems to be scared that George McGovern is comming back from the grave.)

HOW TO DEAL:

First of all, it was the Democrats of Connecticut that voted Lieberman out. That is called democracy. Also point out that getting rid of Lieberman moves the party to the center - not the left.

Also point out that getting rid of Lieberman moves the party to the center - not the left.

You're going to have to explain that one to me. Is Lamont part of the Kos/Dean center that you spoke of earlier?

That is the kos/Dean/Jason center. We only seem leftist becuase the past 10 years has been an aberation.

They want centerist Dems to be scared that George McGovern is comming back from the grave.

You meant his political grave, right? George is alive and well.

Zoiks...!

...uhh...yeah....I meant politcal grave...that's it.
