The Home Front

Joe Lieberman is in big tropuble due to the fact that he continued to support a President who was just a plain f*ck-up. It is so clear that Bush is a f*ck-up that many individual instances of his f*cking up are lost in the mist of all the f*ck ups.

At some point in the future, all of the Bush/Castle f*ck ups and failures will be finally catalogued and known in full. When they are, everyone will know that one of the war planners biggest failures was our failure to create a cohesive "home front".

Lying about the Iraqi WMD's hurt (maybe crippled the effort to create a home front), but like the rest of the war the lack of a "home front" actuallly resulted from a lack of serious thinking about the reality of war. That and the lack of poltical will required to demand that most Americans sacrifice anything for the "war" effort.

Comments:
"Lying about the Iraqi WMD's"

you really are a kool-aid drinker.

I won't bother to post the quotes from every democrat of prominance declaring the danger of Sadam's WMD program prior to 2000 (when the Bush/Rove/Halliburton mind ray took over)

Hap,

You still think Iraq had WMD and you are calling me a kool-aid drinker.

Wait. Now I remeber, Michael Moore took the WMD's and Nigerian yellow cake to Syria in his invisible private jet while he drank cocktails with Ted Kennedy.

C'mon man.

happycon,

You have to admit that Bush botched the home front side of the war.

Bush executed his homefront strategy brilliantly!

First of all, whipping up support for the war out of thin air was masterful. He got half of America, and most of the Senate to believe Iraq had WMDs and was preparing to distribute them to terrorists. Hell, I believed it too. And he has half of American thinking any opposition to the President's policies is treason.

Remember, Cheney is an unreconstructed Nixon man who think Nixon got a raw deal. Cheney thinks the only thing wrong with domestic spying, including spying on your political opponents, is getting caught. Cheney believes Nixon should have crushed the anti-war movement and used maximum force to win in Vietnam. Nixon did consider imposing martial law in the US, but stepped back from the brink. Cheney wouldn't have stepped back.

Cheney and the PNAC have learned the lessons of Vietnam well. They consolidated political power before launching the war, and established vast domestic spying. Don't kid yourself; if the s**t hits the fan, all these lefty blogs will be shut down, and their authors in a Halliburton detention facility (unfortunately I am not moon-batting about that; I wish I were kidding. Halliburton has an open-ended contract to build massive civilian detention facilities for vague purposes in the US. The legal hurdles against indefinite imprisonment of US citizens have already been cleared away).

...and yet the wingnuts think that Bush should be able to federalize the natl guard at the snap of his fingers.

Zionist Plot revealed: The Israel vs. Hezbollah battle is really so that Halliburton can get a no-bid contract to rebuild the Lebanon.

G

Even two years ago that would have sounded like sarcasm. Now it sounds like you are starting to "get it".

Jason, it takes two layers of aluminum foil to keep the Haliburton rays out.

regarding the "home front"...

what did you want? updated WWII posters on billboards and in schools and librarys? Government funded infomercials on how important the war is and how well it is going? and how to tell a good muslim from a bad one?

shared sacrifice? isn't $3/gal gasoline shared suffering enough?

Getting wanded and walking around with your shoes in your hand like an idiot at the airport sounds like shared suffering. Oh wait, Ben Franklin says that's merely sacrificing liberty for security.

The ACLU doesn't want people searched going into football stadiums...guess they missed Black Sunday.

HOOT! Rex, if it wasn't impying that which is so rotten.

what did you want? updated WWII posters on billboards and in schools and librarys?

How about repealing the Bush tax cuts on the upper income brackets? Imposing a new war tax on luxury items? Stop talking about repealing a so-called "death tax?"

Or the biggie Republicans don't want to talk about - draft the sons of the rich!

"That and the lack of poltical will required to demand that most Americans sacrifice anything for the "war" effort."

sacrifice what? what do you want to raise taxes on?

or is it like Lent, we all must give up somehting until the war is over... what would you have the government take away? TV? Beer?

what is your desired shared sacrifice?"
